What is Your Mind Focused On?

mindsetWhat is your mind focused on most of the time? That becomes your way of life, doesn’t it? Remember this saying when we first started going forward into the computer age “Garbage in- garbage out!” That’s how our minds work! What goes in is what we become and it shows itself everywhere we go!

That is why it is so important to make sure as individuals, business owners, and entrepreneurs we are putting the right things into our minds so that we can have successful and productive lives!

Once we begin on this journey it is a never ending process of learning and living. We have to recharge and refresh to keep our minds focused on what is best for us!

Whether it is improving our skill sets, maintaining great health, or having wonderful relationships and communications with others, it takes a daily decision and choice to keep our mindsets focused on doing what is best for us.

Carol Andrews, one of our speakers here at our agency is an expert in this field of making sure we create the right mindset for what we have been called and gifted to become.

As a sought after keynote speaker and break-out session presenter, Carol helps you know who you are so you can keep focused on what it will take to have confidence, overcome the fear, and succeed at what you do.

Carol challenges everyone, including herself, to keep a positive attitude, be kind, and focus on the business you are in and do it well, using traditional and social media as your platform.

Periscope, Are You Scoping? Tips to Be the Best!

logoP

Periscope,  https://www.periscope.tv/ is the latest live streaming App owned and launched by Twitter in March 2015! It has taken on a global life of its own, where you can quickly share your message in person anytime, it’s easy to set up using your mobile device-phone or iPad, Twitter account and the App, and you can network with others all at the same time as you are learning and sharing with others!

A few of my favorite “Scopers” are:
Carol Andrews- https://twitter.com/carolandrewsnc who is a speaker here at our agency
Kim Garst-https://twitter.com/kimgarst
Sue B Zimmerman- https://twitter.com/suebzimmerman
Ja’Net Adams-https://twitter.com/JaNetAdamsSpeak
Joy Cook-https://twitter.com/joycookpr
Scott McKain- https://twitter.com/scottmckain,
Heather Heuman- https://twitter.com/heatherheuman

What prevents most people and businesses from doing live streaming is FEAR! It is a reality wake up when you see yourself speaking and all the action that is going on live! Content, connection and being visual always attract people to your business. I see how being on Periscope and listening and interacting with others, and then doing “scopes” yourself can be such a great Social Media addition to your business strategy. To overcome that #FEARfactor you can always do “private” posts where you can practice before going public!

Did I create enough excitement for you to want to download the App and dive in?  Some suggestions first before you go live:

  •  When setting up account include your picture, and fill out your profile completely.
  •  Take time to watch other “scopes” before you do your own.
  •  Be natural and confident of who you are and what you do.
  •  Avoid being a distraction: don’t adjust your clothes, use profanity, or go too long.
  •  Make sure you are using Wifi, otherwise your data plan could explode.
  •  Plan on having featured guests, either live or by Skype.
  •  Always have a CTA-Call to Action.
  •  This is not a perfect science, be patience, keep broadcasting the replay will be fine.
  •  Your broadcasts are only available for 24 hours, subscribe free to http://katch.me/.
  •  Be a great follower when you listen to others. Comment, give hearts, & share them.

I love Periscope for our business, and the ability it allows me to showcase and interview our Talent and staff! I normally do two scopes a week, or when things come up I urgently want you to know about; and then I listen to others daily!   Follow us at @simplysuespeaks, and look forward to “scoping’ with you!

“yes….BUT!”

yesbutAs you live, work, and plan does the word BUT… ever come up?  Speakers and authors are cautioned not to overuse this word, but in reality how often is that your mindset?

Recently, Carol Andrews-TV Media Personality, and Speaker shared a new concept of how to evaluate, if you are living in the BUT mode, and staying where you are, by testing your EQR ability! It will help you get past the BUT… mentality and mindset and get you from where you are to where you want to be!

Part 2 of “The Secrets of Managing Your Time: from the Experts!”

wow1I knew this was an important topic for all Entrepreneurs and those that dream of being one, but was overwhelmed with the response to the advice shared last week from the talent found at “Simply” Sue Speaks! Global Booking Agency!  Glad to hear we are sharing solutions to this issue of having enough time to do it all!

Did you know Americans work more hours than any other country in the world?  Is having your own business the answer to being able to choose your own hours and be your own boss? Looks like there is still an issue on how one has the time to accomplish everything!  Our experts are ready to share some more valuable tips that can possibly change your life forever!

Alfred Poor, Speaker, Best-seller Author and Technology Expert shares how he manages his day so that he has time to accomplish all he needs to do!  “I break my day into 90 minute segments with a 15 minute intervals between. That gives me times of head-down concentration, with breaks to make phone calls, answer emails, and post on social media. I also provide time for planning at the start and end of each day so that I can keep an eye on the big picture, as well as on the deadlines that might be looming around the corner. I also have a note posted on my desk that asks: “What do I want to accomplish TODAY?”

Alfred, a graduate of Harvard and sought after speaker on college campuses and technology events, is a full-time professional speaker and author with an international reputation. He is the author or co-author of more than a dozen books, as well as thousands of articles in print and on-line. He brings energy and humor to his highly-interactive presentations. Traveling from Pennsylvania, looks like Alfred’s advice is working in his professional and personal life.

Coming from across the country from where I am located is Julie Austin, speaker, award-winning author, inventor, and innovator. Julie is from the fast-paced lifestyle of Los Angeles, and shares: “My one tip on time management would be to make out a to-do list the night before. That way you can hit the ground running first thing in the morning! I do anything that requires ‘heavy brain focus’ first thing in the morning, make all calls before 5, and do anything, like shopping or cleaning after hours when you don’t really need ‘peak’ brain performance!”

Julie believes “how you beat your competition is through innovation.” As an inventor/innovator who “turned, $5.00 and a lump of clay into an International, NASDAQ winning product, “SWIGGIES-the Wrist Water Bottle by Hydrosport,” Julie appears all over the country sharing the techniques she learned as a former gatekeeper of an International Academy Award-winning production company, commercial actor and TV host. She is featured in the books “Patently Female” and “Girls Think of Everything,” and has a best-seller “The Money Garden” available now.  “Why hire Julie?  If you don’t your competition will!”

Heading back to North Carolina on our time with the experts today, we find PJ Sawvel, award-winning communicator with a passion for helping people turn their words into vehicles that drive profits, productivity, and professional development. She shares: “I begin my day by asking two simple questions. What’s one thing I can do today to move my business forward?  What’s one thing I can do today to move my family relationships forward? Then I make sure I do those two things! Additionally, I schedule my physical exercise and spiritual meditation at the top of every day because that’s the way I take care of me! When these three things are taken care of–God, family, and business–then the rest takes care of itself!”

PJ Sawvel as a former top producer in real estate, insurance, and the brokerage markets–is an accomplished face-to-face communicator. In the mid-1990’s, she changed lanes and became an award-winning investigative reporter, founding president of a grassroots non-profit, and now author of the 2014 Global E-Books Gold Media winner, Under the Influence: The Town That Listened to Its Kids. These roles have given her the rare insider’s view of the connections that exist between intentions, words, and the target audience–and the subsequent results. She is a sought after keynote speaker, and workshop and breakout session presenter.

We have one more tip that is sure to let us see what taking care of our time now can do for our future!

Rachael Wonderlin is a nationally recognized expert in the Dementia Care field. For as long as Rachael can remember she has wanted to care for aging adults. Even though Dementia in some form affects 1 in every 3 seniors,  this can be a very difficult topic to discuss. But not for Rachael! She has a world-wide following on her blog and is a contributor to the Alzheimers Reading Room where she shares all aspects of the aging process and Dementia. With so many challenges in her work life, and personal life for her time, Rachael shares: “I am an A Type personality, so I enjoy being busy. I am into old-fashioned-to-do-lists. My work items items I keep in a special notebook, and my personal to-do list I have on my phone. Keeping them separate really helps!”

Rachael is a former child film actress, and although she loved acting in commercials, video, and film, she wanted to focus on her education and the calling she had early in life of caring for aging adults. While in college she did not give up her passion for performance. She comes alive in front of an audience, and now with the topic of Dementia as her platform, she is able to speak and educate her audiences in a fun, comical, and engaging way. Rachael has a new book coming out soon from  John Hopkins Press:  What to Remember When They Forget.

With the varied lifestyles, careers, and personal abilities we all have, time is very valuable and precious to each of us! One of our other speakers, Carol Andrews recently shared this: “Put a premium on your time. You’ll never get back what you’ve wasted!”

Better prepared to face the issue of time management in your business and personal life?  We would love to hear your comments, and how we can help you and your audiences in the future.

Approaching Change

Today I’m thinking about change. Specifically, how people approach it.

Some fight change. “If it isn’t broken, why fix it?” Although there is some merit to that the world just doesn’t work that way.  Someone, somewhere is always coming up with new, innovative approaches to “the norm”.

Some choose support roles.  “It’s not my idea, but I am the team player to make it happen”.  Commendable but perhaps not everything you want when personal dreams take a back seat to the so-called bigger picture.

Some effect change.  They come up with ideas that have everyone else saying “why didn’t I think of that”?  For some reason, sticky notes come to mind.

For this group change is like breathing.  They thrive on it. Whether personal or professional they chart a course and put people and things in place to make sure they reach their destination.

The last group doesn’t just effect change, they embrace it. They realize they are going to need people from the other groups.  They realize that beyond obvious limitations, there is good in each personality type.

The person who fights change signifies the caution needed when developing new ideas. Is the change with or without purpose?  Is there a plan to make it happen?

The person(s) in the supporting role signifies the reality that No Man is an Island. There is no reason for a “think tank” if the all of those ideas simply lay dormant.

sticky-noteThe person effecting change signifies that no matter what the idea or plan, someone has to bear responsibility and convince others of a risk worth taking.  Easy if everything goes as planned.  Not so much when things head south.

In the end it all spells the importance of team.  Each of us has to decide our role.

  • Opportunities arise.
  • Sometimes you lead.
  • Sometimes you follow.

Perhaps the lesson is one of flexibility and respect no matter where and how you fit.

#kindnesscounts #teambuilding

Social Media: Getting It Done

arrowtemplate 2I am a dedicated student of social media and its implications on modern communication. Admittedly, the more I learn, the more I need to learn. From tweets and posts to making sure your site isn’t overrun with robotic spam, it is a non-stop job.

It’s most certainly not a job a small business with less than 5 employees wants to take on. Yet, unless you can pay someone else to do it, you have to find a  way to make it happen or get left in the cyber dust.

I say the idea, no matter your staff size, is to work smart, not hard.

I Like these basics:

Tell me something, don’t sell me something. In general, people love fresh nuggets of timely information. They don’t love feeling even the slightest pressure to buy.

Start a conversation. Engaging your followers/friends gives them a chance to react. It also sets you up as a go-to person for information and lively conversation.

Listen more than you talk. You can learn a lot by hearing what others want and need from you. Short and sweet comments are also a lot easier to process.

Keep the fun in the function. Social media is not a one-size-fits-all platform. Your brand should dictate how you use it. It will also dictate areas of needed improvement. My rule: Kindness Counts

Fill a need. If you are not filling a reader’s need, they might ‘unfollow’, ‘unfriend’ or ‘unlike’ you. That’s not always a bad thing, because when it comes to measurable analytics it is more about the clicks you get on your posts than the number of likes or follows that you have.

Let the real you shine through. It is never a bad thing to give people who have taken the time to follow or like you a glimpse of who you are. A picture of you having fun with family or coworkers; cheering on your favorite team during the big dance; or sharing a thought through your pet is great. Your followers dictate through response when you’ve gone beyond moderation.

One of the things I love about the advances in social media are the dashboards that are pretty standard on most sites.  At a glance you can check progress. Even better than that, you can put all your outlets under one umbrella like Hootsuite ot BufferApp.

I can schedule a post or post in the moment. Again the key is moderation.  Graphs on your pages will help serve as a guide.

  • Be selective on what and when you post.
  • Look at your personal pages and see what works.
  • Keep the good, tweak the rest.
  • Don’t be afraid to get social and have fun doing it!

Let me know what you think, as we grow together.

-Carol

The Power of Gratitude by Carol Andrews

On February 22, 2014, I had the honor of offering a keynote lunch chat to about 300 people who attended the Southern Entrepreneurship In The Arts Conference at UNC-Greensboroimg026.

I was once again humbled by the positive response .

The idea was to “Orchestrate Your Creative Future based on three ‘C’s’: Connect, Collaborate and Create.

But there was also an obvious ‘G’ in the room and that was ‘Gratitude’.

Here’s a sampling of what was in my inbox, after the conference.

Hi Carol,

I really enjoyed your joyful approach as the lunch keynote speaker at the SEA Conference UNCG Saturday.  It was a pleasure to meet you personally (as briefly as it was…) and I look forward to building a creative relationship with you in whatever direction that takes.

Paula C SnyderSoulfully Nostalgic Music with a Modern Flair

Feb 25 at 10:20 PM

Hi! I don’t know if you remember me but we met at the arts conference last weekend (I was with Alexandra dal Moro who you had met before at some point) and I’d just like to say that your speech was so fantastic and uplifting and I was so happy I could experience it 🙂

-Annie Astraikis

Greetings Carol,

Thank you for your Phenomenal Presentation Saturday!!! I appreciate our creative conversation, your “Real Talk” and I am looking forward to making my Splash and Staying connected with you!!!

Love & Light, Nadirah Goldsmith, Visionary, Writer & Producer

It didn’t end there! I gained new followers on Twitter and Facebook, loaded up on pictures from Instagram and made lasting connections on LinkedIn.

Lesson learned from the conference:photo 11621935_636057689781550_208590507_nphoto 4

Kind words and notes translated into a wonderful week of smiles and memories, despite  my joining my family the following day for my 88-year old uncle’s funeral.

The power of gratitude alwaysballoons into bigger things.

Your gratitude turned into mygratitude for smiles that surfaced through tears.

My family was the benefactor as we shared this experience leading to stories of joy about my uncle.

The seed of gratitude grows and spreads exponentially.

So why not make it a key part of your business model?

I recently visited a restaurant in my town and found myself watching the wait staff.  We were in just after an obvious lunch rush, but there was so much joy on their faces.

We felt welcomed and appreciated for our patronage and it looked like everyone in my direct line of vision felt the same. We were more than happy to say “Thanks” both verbally and monetarily.

Those small business owners have a gem of a staff and I have to believe that it is because this staff feels appreciated for the jobs they do.

I know it means that my family and I will be repeat customers!

Words of affirmation like “Good job!”,. “Thank you”, and  “Wow, you really didn’t have to do that, but I’m so glad you did!” go a long way in spreading good will and building relationships.photo 3

Isn’t that what successful business is all about?  Get into the cycle of gratitude my friends and watch your business grow!

Let me begin by once again thanking organizers of the Southern Entrepreneurship of the Arts Conference for inviting me and for all the open-hearted participants who reminded me once again that “Kindness Counts!”
