It’s Never Too Late!

Have you ever wanted something, but thought it was too late…that you missed your chance?  Have you ever had an opportunity, but didn’t take advantage of it.  Have you ever felt you tried and failed so many times that you just can’t try again?never too late

I have felt all of those things at one time or another, but I have also learned that it is never too late to do what you should have done, have what you could have had, or be what you would have been.

You have to go beyond “if only” thinking if you want to live an exciting and fulfilling life.  You must give up your shoulda, woulda, coulda mentality.  The past is over.  We can’t do anything about it. We have right now and the future. Don’t let habitual thinking cause you to get in your own way of having a positive future.  You will probably have to step out of your comfort zone.  Experiencing some discomfort is necessary as change never seems to occur without it. Be spontaneous and take a risk.

Don’t sell yourself short.  Be willing to acknowledge that you may have some incorrect perceptions about yourself, your abilities, and the expectations of others.  You are your most valuable asset.  W. Clement Stone, American bestselling author and founder of Combined Insurance Company said, “Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve.”  What do you believe?  Is it over or is there still time to achieve your dreams?  What dreams can you conceive?

In which direction do you want to put your energies…into your same old rut or taking a new path.  Break the destructive pattern of letting life pass you by.  Once you understand it’s never too late, you can reclaim the dreams of your past, breathe new life into dreams which have been “on hold,” or dream new dreams.

Communicating Your Guiding Principles

Are you communicating your guiding principles in your life and business?  Do you know what they are?

Recently I had the honor of meeting and learning from the world reknown leadership expert, best-selling author, and CEO Space faculty member, Hugh Ballou.

My biggest action item take-away from his presentation is: to be successful, we should run our businesses and lives on our own personal guiding principles.

Different from your mission statement, vision statement, business plan, your guiding principles are your values, clearly defined, that drive your work. Note the short definition from BusinessDictionary.com:

“Any principles or precepts that guide an organization throughout its life in all circumstances, irrespective of changes in its goals, strategies, type of work, or the top management.”

Hugh Ballou shared, when you have your guiding principles in place, it’s easy for your clients to interact with you at all levels and know what you are about.

Ballou shares his own guiding principles for his personal life, and for his business on his website.

“The bottom line: leading without guiding principles is like trying to sail a boat without a rudder.” ~ Hugh Ballou

Keeping that in mind, I took the challenge from Mr. Ballou, and after spending some in-depth thought and time I found these rose to the top:
Be Myself
Be Creative
Be Grateful
Be Compassionate
Have Fun

I challenge you to seek your guiding principles and then, like I am doing,  learn how to commuicate them to your clients, co-workers, and even your family.

Do You Need a Bow and Arrow Moment?

Bow and ArrowDo You Need a Bow and Arrow Moment?
This week-end something happened that has been a dream for many years! Something wanted and talked about for years!  Began my journey to being an Archer!  Where did that come from? Watching too many Robin Hood shows growing up? What good can it do? There is no desire to hunt, fish, or compete, which is what you normally do with a bow and arrow. The goal solely is to experience the thrill of one day being good enough to hit the target dead center! And be able to keep doing it!

Isn’t that what our lives and businesses are all about?
-Having a desire and passion
-Letting yourself and others know about it
-Planning how it can happen
-Getting the right tools to work with
-Making the choice and time to do it
-Keep on going and not quitting

Today is it time for your “bow and arrow” moment?  The challenge is: will you do it?

“Get What You Pay For?”

yougetwhatyoupayfor

How many times have you heard: “you get what you pay for?”  I can remember my Grandmother saying that over and over again.

We are not sure where the quote actually came from, but I am finding more and more people want value, a positive experience, and service. Isn’t that what everyone in business promises to provide and deliver in a cost effective, excellent and timely manner?

I encounter this at times: “Sue, I love your company and the speakers you represent, but we can’t afford you!”  Ever heard that, or said it to a someone else, maybe even me? When I hear it, I have to first think, “what are they really saying” before I respond. I have found in my many years of sales and marketing that usually it is not about the money at all!

People and companies can always find the money when their deepest desires are met! However, when hearing that statement how many of us will take the time to ask, “tell me more about why you feel that way?” to see if we have even uncovered their deepest desire, or addressed it clearly enough? Or do we just smile, feel rejected or even say: “you get what you pay for” and walk away?

Building a business is all about relationships, knowing your target markets, and being willing and confident enough to do the best you can, overcome objections, and handle rejections well so you can move on no matter the choice of others!

Challenge for you: how do you handle objections and the feeling of rejection? It’s key to your success!

Weekly #WOWfactor- Go for the Dream

godreams

Many people I meet share their dreams; but few are actually living them out! What is it that makes us afraid to pursue what we know we are meant to be and do? There are two deciding factors that come into play at this point!  The biggest is the lack of belief in ourselves, and the other is surrounding ourselves with those who don’t believe in us either!

To address the first one it takes making a choice on keeping your  mindset and attitude focused on being positive and living in your strengths and not your weaknesses. Sounds simple for me to state, but not so easy to do, is it?  Some things to review quickly are: what do you read, how much time do you spend watching TV, how many times a day do you say “I can’t”, how healthy are you,  and how many times a day do you laugh? Renewing our minds daily is very important and key to making sure we are valuing ourselves and following our dream. It also helps us to face and view the hard times, decisions and choices as learning experiences instead of giving in and quitting!

Handling the second factor will certainly help! Jim Rohn said it best: “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.”  Take a look at who you spend the most time with. Do you have 5? Do you know who they are? Do they know it? Need to make some changes? Relationships are so valuable in how we live out our purpose and the pursuing of our dreams. Take a look at your five: are they uplifting, positive people? Are they living their dream? Do you need to make some changes?

In America we are so blessed and able to pursue our dreams. Are you ready to Go for it? What will your world look like a year from now?  I believe in you! I know you can Go for Your Dream! The question is: do you?

How is Your New “YOU” Year Going?

new youHow is Your New “You” Year going? The end of the 1st quarter is fast approaching, and where are you in taking the challenge?  Have you gotten so busy doing life as usual that you just haven’t gotten around to it?

An awesome business owner and friend to many, Tracy Myers shared this and asked us to put it somewhere to view daily:

“I know that every day is not a perfect day. In fact, some days can’t even be classified as “good.” Those are usually the days where you just want to throw in the towel and give up. But you can’t quit…especially on yourself.  You’ve gotta dig deep, kick it into another gear and barrel through any obstacles that may be in your way.  Yes, life can take its toll and drag you down but only if you let it. YOU are in control of your proverbial cup of life being half empty or half full so stop placing blame on everything/everyone else. It’s time to pony up and take responsibility. You can do this. It’s what you were born to do.” Tracy E. Myers, CMD

Is your wheel of life, (which includes these areas-Spiritual, Physical, Intellectual, Family, Social, Career, Financial), running smoothly, or are you a little shaky and feeling overwhelmed and out of control?

Today to get back on the right track think about these three positive things as you begin your new week:

  • Do you know who you are and where you are going= purpose
  • Do you have priorities and goals in place to get you where you want to go = plan
  • Do you have a daily schedule in place that matches your purpose and  plan= practice

Life is exciting and ready to be lived. Are you prepared to complete your part?
