Joe Roberts is an internationally recognized motivational keynote speaker, TEDx speaker, and bestselling author whose extraordinary life journey embodies the transformative power of human resilience.
His story begins on a cold, rainy day in 1989, when he sat homeless on a Vancouver park bench, battling opiate addiction and the lasting effects of childhood trauma. It was there that a stranger named Gus looked past Joe’s circumstances and said eight words that would change everything: “There’s more to you than you can see.”
Those words ignited a spark of possibility that Joe carried from the depths of homelessness to extraordinary heights. Within twelve years of that pivotal moment, he had transformed his life so completely that he was featured on the cover of Canadian Business Magazine as one of Canada’s most successful entrepreneurs—a testament to the incredible potential that lies within each of us, even in our darkest moments.
But Joe’s greatest transformation was yet to come. Despite achieving remarkable business success, he felt disconnected from his true purpose. Driven by a desire to help others discover their own possibility, the way Gus had helped him, Joe made the bold decision to leave his thriving career and dedicate his life to making a difference.
In 2016, Joe embarked on an unprecedented 17-month journey, pushing a shopping cart across the entire width of North America—nearly 12 million steps through rain, snow, and shine.
The Push for Change campaign wasn’t just a physical journey; it was a mission to raise awareness for Canada’s homeless youth and inspire systemic change. The campaign succeeded in creating permanent improvements to federal programs for vulnerable children and continues to help young people find their own “possibility.”
Today, Joe shares his powerful message of resilience, transformation, and human potential with audiences worldwide. His authentic approach and lived experience provide audiences with practical strategies for overcoming adversity, embracing change, and discovering the extraordinary potential that exists within every individual—even when they can’t see it themselves.
Joe Roberts proves that our circumstances don’t define our destiny, and that sometimes, all it takes is one person believing in our potential to change the entire purpose of our lives.
Joe’s story captivated the whole audience for the full length of time that he presented. Sharing his personal life story resonated with each participant at some level and Joe was able to tailor it specific to our needs. In talking with Joe prior to him presenting he asked us what we needed for him to “knock it out of the park”. Suffice to say, he hit a Grand Slam!”
